A police officer working the scene of a Huntsville traffic accident was the victim of another car accident involving a tow truck and a third vehicle. The first car accident occurred on the morning of Feb. 2 on an overpass. The police officer responded to the car crash and was parked along the side of the road. He was sitting in his squad car finishing up work at the scene when the tow truck accident occurred.
The tow truck was leaving the car accident scene, pulling out into traffic when it collided with an on-coming motor vehicle. The motor vehicle then crashed into the police car. The police officer sought treatment at the Huntsville Hospital and was released. No other deaths or injuries from the car accidents have been reported.
The multiple collisions at this Huntsville car accident scene show the dangers that are present at a motor vehicle accident scene. Parked cars on the side of the road, sometimes horrendously totaled, police cars and emergency vehicles with flashing lights and sirens, tow trucks and accident witnesses all add to the confusion and distraction. Gawkers and other motorists trying to safely navigate around a car accident blocking traffic lanes can also create serious dangers.
Unfortunately, most drivers will be involved in a car accident at some point. Whether you are the victim of a car accident, a bystander or responder on the scene, or a driver stuck in traffic behind a car accident, your safety must be your priority. Whenever possible, stay buckled up in your motor vehicle or in another vehicle parked away from the scene and pay attention to the events taking place around you. As a motorist passing an accident, slow down and pay close attention to any emergency responders directing traffic as well as the traffic moving in lanes around you, and anyone who may be driving away from the crash scene.
While car accident scenes can be chaotic and overwhelming, victims, responders and other motorists all should be aware of the extra dangers so they can avoid them whenever possible.
