Alabama had a famous CNN radio anchor on its roadways yesterday. Stanley Wright Case and his wife were driving through Birmingham yesterday at the time of a rainstorm. They never had a chance to get past the rainy stretch of driving before a serious car accident occurred. Only one of them survived, leaving many friends, colleagues and family left to mourn the loss of the 59-year-old CNN Radio veteran.

The investigation into the accident is ongoing, and authorities will likely create a reconstruction of the wreck in order to find more answers behind the wreck's cause. It's crucial for any fatal accident to be thoroughly investigated. Details can help the government decide whether it will press criminal charges against a driver, but they can also help the surviving family members decide if they want to file a wrongful death or personal injury lawsuit.

Of course, no legal outcome can ever bring back a loved one. But there are costs associated with a loss, plus Case's wife survived but has needed treatment from a hospital. There will be bills associated with the loss of the news anchor, as well as the medical needs of his surviving wife. If a personal injury lawsuit were to succeed, the financial damages gained would support victims' needs and let them try to move on with their changed lives.

This discussion about lawsuits, however, is premature. As mentioned earlier, officials still need to find out more about what happened. Sources do report that it was raining and a truck veered out of its lane and crashed into Case and his wife's vehicle. An important question to answer in this tragic case is why the driver crossed the median.

We will post an update when more information about this matter becomes available.
