In a prior post, we covered a tragic story about a couple that was killed in a wreck on Apr. 25. A Huntsville source reports that the family of the two parents killed in the Alabama car accident have gone ahead and taken civil action against the suspect whom they believe was reckless and, therefore, caused the fatal crash.
If you don't remember what case we are talking about, it is important to remind you that the defendant in this case is an Alabama State Trooper. According to a Huntsville source, the trooper was supposedly on his way to a prior crash when he rear-ended the victims' vehicle.
That rear-end collision took the lives of the husband and wife victims, 38 and 31, and forever changed the lives of their mourning family members, including their two daughters. In a likely effort to make some sort of peace with what happened, the family recently filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the trooper. What they want in damages, however, is undisclosed.
For the most part, it is unnatural to assume that a law enforcement officer would be the culprit responsible for causing a wreck. They are here to serve and protect us, right? That's the ideal situation. But the truth is that officers make mistakes, and the family in this case alleges that the officer was driving too recklessly before the accident.
Says the family's attorney, "There was no reason for him to be traveling at that rate of speed on a two-lane county road." He argues that the speed was not necessary, even though the officer was reportedly responding to a crash. The crash only involved one car and no one had been injured.
A hearing for this civil case will take place next month. We will post updates as details develop.
